Thesis Progress:

With exploring the process of accumulating Feng-shui knowledge and its dynamics over time, and mapped out how the interaction between Feng-shui knowledge and the social or natural environment has evolved. I have an Image of how this knowledge get to what it looks like today.

Feng shui knowledge developed from a combination of experience gained from surviving in war-torn areas by selecting favorable sites, which I give them name of 'terrain school', and the desire for good future in peaceful areas, which I name them 'formula school'. This accumulated knowledge includes understanding how to recognize the natural environment and the worship of supernatural forces.

For Terrain school which this thesis is looking at, the migration of people to avoid war or disasters had brought an enormous amount of sources to this knowledge. For ancient China especially from 200 AD to 600 AD. (三国两晋南北朝 The period from Three Kingdoms to the Southern and Northern Dynasties)

People have to deal with the mountainous and riverine South terrains when migrating from the flatter Northern regions with more plains, during the process, prototype of the Feng-Shui system had formed.

After that by Tang Dynasty the collage of this knowledge first was summarized in medias of poems and books.《撼龙经》'Book for touching dragon', is one of the earliest complete one describing the Feng Shui patterns distracted from actual scenarios, it used mountains as anchor points of the hundreds of types that been concluded.
