We conducted a literature review to identify the gaps and research needs in the field of mangrove ecology and conservation. Then, we explored the capabilities of GEE and its potential in analyzing satellite imagery to study long-term changes in vegetation cover.

The significance of this topic lies in the critical role mangroves play in coastal ecosystems. They provide numerous ecological services, including carbon sequestration, shoreline protection, and habitat for diverse species. However, mangroves are under threat from various anthropogenic activities and climate change. Understanding the long-term changes in mangrove distribution, health, and dynamics is crucial for effective conservation and management strategies.

By utilizing GEE, we can access a vast archive of satellite imagery spanning over a decade, enabling us to analyze temporal trends and changes in mangrove extent, density, and health. This research can provide valuable insights into the impacts of natural and human-induced factors on mangroves, aiding in the development of targeted conservation and restoration efforts.
