The South East New Territories Landfill (English: South East New Territories Landfill, abbreviation: SENT, commonly known as Tseung Kwan O Landfill) is one of the three strategic landfills in Hong Kong, located at Tai Chek Sha in the southern part of Tseung Kwan O, Sai Kung District, New Territories, and was constructed at a cost of HK$2.1 billion by the Hong Kong Government. The landfill was constructed in September 1993 and commenced operation in September 1994 by the contractor, Jade Valley Engineering Limited. It covers a total area of 100 hectares on the ground and at sea, with a capacity of 43 million cubic meters, and receives about 5,340 metric tons of municipal waste and special waste per day. With effect from January 6, 2016, the Southeast New Territories (SENT) Landfill has been converted to receive construction waste only . The 18 hectares of land at the south-eastern edge of the landfill is “temporarily borrowed” from the Clear Water Bay Country Park.
