Where do you work?

The instructor shared with us the salaries of landscape architects in different countries and regions, as well as the salary levels of landscape architects in other professions. Although landscape architects may not be as good as finance, artificial intelligence and other professions in terms of average salary, but as landscape architects have the value of the profession itself, creating pleasant public spaces.

With the running of the economic cycle, the market in mainland China is currently in a relatively sluggish stage, with the volume of projects greatly reduced from before. On the other hand, mainland China has completed its basic urban modernization over the past 40 years, so the total amount of development per year will enter a steady trend. So future work in mainland China will be more focused on the quality of design, which will herald a more mature market.

In Southeast Asia, such as Vietnam and the Philippines, there is still plenty of room and demand for urban development, which could become a very important source of projects in the future. And the main international source of projects at the moment would be in the UAE countries in the Middle East.

I changed my thesis topic. I found an article ‘Seeing from Above: observation of contemporary dike-pond landscape’ very attractive to me. The dike-pond system is a combination of nature and culture, and it is a special landscape that can only be created in estuaries. I see a lot of richness in fishponds and there are a lot of planning and design ideas to be explored.
