A Youthful Perspective

Three young alumni shared their professional experiences with us, which was also a way to add confidence to our outlook on the profession. One of the alumni is also working in other industries, but she talked about how the knowledge she learned during graduate school still helps her a lot. I believe that all the knowledge learned is transferable, so there will be a wider range of choices when facing the future job market.

This week I went to the venue for research. During the research it was found that many birds were feeding in the drained fishponds, proving that commercial fishponds are indeed one of the most important sources of food for birds. Also found on the site was that some of the fishponds were abandoned and had invasive plants growing all over the water. Some of the streams were affected by sewage discharged from nearby brownfields resulting in black colored water.
I spoke briefly with local fishermen and learned that the fishponds were rented by fishermen from private owners and that part of the ponds had been acquired by the government and developers.
